Texas Electric: The Growing Feud between Wind & Natural Gas Providers

by jsgs45 on May 3, 2010

Many consumers may not know it, but there’s a growing feud between wind and natural gas providers that could impact future service.

Basically, the tensions are caused over Texas’s operating rules.

Natural gas providers say the rules favor wind providers more. Wind providers say natural gas providers are trying to get rid of them.

It’s worth noting that up until about four years ago, wind providers played a small part in the Texas electricity market. Now, wind turbines provide a significant amount of the state’s electricity.

Energy experts estimate that if wind turbine energy provision continues to grow in Texas, by the year 2013 natural gas electricity consumption will decrease by almost 20% (18.5 to be exact).

Hence, the heat up in the debate; one worth watching.

Conventional Texas Electric Companies Provide Stability

There have been a lot of changes in the Texas electricity market over the last decade and a half. With the deregulation of the Texas electricity market and now the rapid expansion of green energy resources, it can be nerve wracking for consumers.

One of the best ways to protect yourself against service disruptions and other problems is to stick with a conventional Texas electricity provider.

This is especially true if you’re enticed by new companies that offer options like prepaid electric service plans. Will they be in business tomorrow is one question you should consider before signing on with them – no matter how good their rate is.

Conventional electric companies in Texas are stable. And, nowadays, they too offer no deposit and low deposit options to help consumers of all income and credit levels. This is why they continue to be  reliable choices for today’s energy consumer.
